urban bees

Our next Canopy event is guaranteed to generate plenty of buzz as we turn our focus to the topic of urban bee keeping. Continuing our recent run of interesting new venues the next Canopy will come to you from Trunk Bar and Restaurant where we'll get a chance to see their recently installed honey garden and hear from our assembled expert apiarists.

Date - 21/09/11

Time - 6:00 - 8:00pm

Venue - Trunk Bar and Restaurant - 275 Exhibition Street Melbourne

As always, our speakers will be followed by an open mic session where you can ask a question of the group or promote your green roof related products or services.

Speakers...

Nick Reade, Exec Chef, & Chris Smith, Sous Chef, InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto
Nick and Chris are responsible for a hobby beekeeping farm on top of the hotel’s roof. The two started their project with the idea of following their produce from “pollen to plate”. The project started in August last year with the delivery of their hives, equipment and a small lavender plantation to kick start their brood.

Lyndon Fenlon ,Urban Honey
Lydon's vision was to build a framework of local honey producing hubs as a sustainable business. Over the past severn years he's perfected his craft and has developed a network of urban bee-hives on green pockets of land and city rooftops with the aim of making locally sourced, sustainably produced honey available to everyone in and around Melbourne's CBD.

Vanessa Kwiatkowski and Mat Lumalasi, Melbourne City Rooftop Honey
Concerned by a growing sense of disconnect between food production and consumption and inspired by hundred year old practices in Europe, Vanessa and Mat have created something uniquely Melbourne in their project ‘Melbourne City Rooftop Honey’. What once was a extension of vegetable gardening has now become a full time passion for them both.

Drinks will be available to purchase at the bar and finger food will be served
